Exciting!

Today marks a big day in my life: I gave blood for the first time. It was an....interesting experience that I probably wont want to experience again. Let me tell you. So I go in and start reading the little handbook they have and I hear some veteran donors talking about how the finger prick is the scariest part. So the doctors take me in to do the interview and here comes the finger prick. I didn't feel anything!

"Great!" I thought. "This is going to be a piece of cake!"

Then I got into the chair. They stuck the needle in, which didn't hurt at all, and I start squeezing away on the stress ball they gave me. I feel great!

"Why is this even a big deal for people?" I thought.

Well, that is when the needle really started hurting me. Every time I would squeeze the ball, I could feel the needle in my arm. Then soon after that both hands started going numb and I couldn't move my fingertips. Not a good sign, if you ask me. Then My vision started going blurry and (having passed out before and knowing the feeling) I said "Jed (that was may doctor's name), I'm going to pass out." The doctors responded really speedily to a remark like this. They put ice packs on my chest, told me to start coughing a lot to get Oxygen to my brain, gave me water, gave me juice, fanned my hot face. It was really great service :) I sat there for about 10 minutes just recovering and then I felt good enough to go to the designated snack spot and I sat there for another 10-15 minutes. I survived!

On another exciting note..... I GOT INTO THE DENTAL HYGIENE PROGRAM!!! I got my letter today and in the course of jumping up and down with my roommates out of excitement, I almost passed out again. Haha

It's been a great day!

Yeah! Congratulations on making it in to dental hygiene school! Also, congrats on surviving your first blood donation. The worst part for me is the anticipation before I give blood. I always feel great after. Maybe it's because I get to eat all the free food I want!

Yay! Congrats on school! I totally hear you on the passing out thing. I almost pass out every single time I have to have my blood drawn. I almost always have a snack with me and I tell the person I have to eat it right before or during the procedure. I guess I must be a wimp!!
